CrossFit Games 2021 will be taking place in a few weeks and many CrossFit Games participants are very excited. There will be women's competitions in addition to the regular men's and women's competitions. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Continue reading to find out! For the latest news on CrossFit, don't miss the CrossFit news site!
The competition for women
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.
The field is full of top-level athletes in the women's competition. The field comprises nine athletes, one of whom is a teenager who won the competition in Australia last summer. Kara Saunders of Australia, who was second in Australia and eleventh in the world in 2020, are also contenders. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard competition at Crossfit Games 2021 was the first. It was also added to the Games' Olympic summer program. Toomey-Orr, who won 30 games events, holds the record of most wins in one Games event. Sager won Event 11 for the men and took home his third Games victory. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. Pegboard is a contest that tests competitor's grip strength as well as coordination. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The competition was fierce and the athletes felt a sense accomplishment after finishing the Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games uses a cutting system to judge individual competition. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. It consists of 15 events so 30 athletes could be reduced after the seventh and eighth events. The question is: How will CrossFit adjust points after cuts? The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.
This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field is reduced to 75 athletes. To determine the top ten, the top 30 athletes compete in a sprint tandem. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system was strongly criticised by former Games participants, who felt that cuts were too substantial.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok has released new CrossFit Games shoes, clothing and equipment. The Nano X1 is the new shoe. They are built to accommodate multiple fitness needs. Although Reebok calls this shoe "the shoe for fitness", it feels more like a training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar upper promotes breathability while ensuring durability. The shoes' responsiveness is enhanced thanks to the RopePro tech and the firm midsole.

CrossFit's contract with Reebok will expire at the end 2020. The Games will no longer have a title sponsor. Reebok has been sponsoring the Games for over a decade and now it is clear that its involvement will be declining. Reebok will not fund the Games' prize pool, but it will still make all the equipment and apparel worn by athletes, even the Reebok gear. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.
