CrossFit Games 2021 have arrived and many CrossFit Games 2021 competitors are thrilled. Apart from the usual men's and ladies' competitions, there will be some women's events. We have all heard about the women's competition, the Pegboard contest, the Cutting system, and Reebok's equipment, but do you know what to expect? Continue reading to find out! Women's competition

This morning, the women's competition began at the 2021 Crossfit Games with the swim event. Jonne Koski and Tia-Clair Toomey Orr won the first event. Koski was the overall champion after she maintained her lead throughout. Tall and Eramoo O'Connell came in second and third, respectively. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.

The women's competition features top-level female athletes. The field features nine athletes, including a 19 year-old Australian powerhouse who won this competition last year. Kara Saunders (Australian athlete) finished second in Australia. She was also eleventh worldwide for 2020. Another rising star is Andrea Nisler, who competed in the team division in 2018 and finished third in the United States and fifteenth overall in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).

Pegboard contest

The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. It was added to Crossfit Games' summer Olympic program alongside double-unders & dumbbell overhead Squats. Toomey-Orr won 30 of the Games' most events, setting a new record. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. While there were many tie-breakers, ToomeyOrr's dominance was enough to win the contest.

CrossFit Games training involves focusing on ten basic physical fitness skills: endurance, strength flexibility power speed and agility. Pegboard competition tests competitors' grip strength, coordination, and speed. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.


Cutting system

CrossFit Games has a new cutting system for individual competition. This is not as extreme as past Games cuts, but it is very different this year. There are 15 events in the competition, so it is possible that 30 athletes will be cut after the eighth or seventh event. One question that remains is how CrossFit will adjust the points distribution after cuts. It's probable that the scoring table used for the 2019 games will remain nearly the same as the one used in 2021.

This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. Major cuts are made in the first six events. The field is then reduced to 75 athletes. The top thirty athletes then compete in a sprint team to determine the top 10. From there, the top twenty athletes compete in the six remaining events. Castro's system has been criticized by veterans Games athletes who feel that the cuts are too significant.

Reebok's equipment

Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. Nano X1 will be the new shoes. They are designed to suit multiple fitness requirements. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar upper promotes breathability while ensuring durability. The shoes are responsive thanks to the firm midsole and RopePro technology.

CrossFit's agreement with Reebok will end at 2020. No title sponsor will be available for the Games. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. The company won't fund the Games' prize purse, but will continue to make all of the athletic apparel and equipment worn by athletes, including the new Reebok gear. However, the company will no longer refer to itself as the "Reebok CrossFit Games" as it does now.
